In the 19th century, on the edge of a gloomy moor in Yorkshire, England, a gypsy boy named Heathcliff was brought to Wuthering Heights by Mr. Dean. He is loved by the master's daughter, Kathy, but while Kathy loves him, she can't refuse her desire to live a prosperous life, and it is Kathy's neighbor Edgar Linton who can provide this kind of living conditions. Heathcliff learned of this by accident and left quietly. Kathy married Linton in a sad mood.
A few years later, Heathcliff returned with a graceful presence. Linton's sister, Ibera, fell in love with Heathcliff. Not only did Heathcliff buy Wuthering Heights, but he also married Isabella. After marriage, Heathcliff's indifference quickly withered Isabella, and Kathy was on the verge of death due to excessive grief. Heathcliff came to Kathy as she was dying, and held her to the window to look out at the rock that had been their "castle" in childhood. Kathy said she waited for their reunion and then died. A distraught Heathcliff spends 20 years mourning Casey, expecting his death. He was extremely contemptuous and tortured to all around him, until Kathy's ghost summoned him to their favorite wasteland on a snowy winter night   .

The 39th version of "Wuthering Heights" should be the earliest version, and it is also the most classic version. The film has a gloomy atmosphere and dark tones, which fully shows the expressive ability of film art, making it one of the great classic works on the screen of the 20th century, and won the Best Cinematography Award in the 12th Academy Awards. The original party may have some opinions on the adaptation of the film, but it is not bad to be able to make it like this due to the limited space.

Wuthering Heights quotes

  • Cathy: Did Joseph see which way you came?

Heathcliff: What does it matter? Nothing's real down there. Our life is here.

    Cathy: Yes, milord.

  • Cathy: It would be dreadful if Hindley ever found out.

Heathcliff: Found out what? That you talk to me once in a while?

Cathy: I shouldn't talk to you at all. Look at you! You get worse every day. Dirty and unkempt and in rags. Why aren't you a man? Heathcliff, why don't you run away?

    Heathcliff: Run away? From you?

Cathy: You could come back to me rich and take me away. Why aren't you my prince like we said long ago? Why can't you rescue me, Heathcliff?

Heathcliff: Cathy, come with me now!

    Cathy: Where?

    Heathcliff: Anywhere!

Cathy: And live in haystacks and steal our food from the marketplaces? No, Heathcliff. That's not what I want.

Heathcliff: You just want to send me off. That won't do. I've stayed here and been beaten like a dog. Abused and cursed and driven man, but I stayed just to be near you. Even as a dog! And I'll stay till the end. I'll live and I'll die under this rock!
