In 1967, Beijing educated youth Chen Zhen and Yang Ke responded to the country's call to go to the mountains and the countryside from Beijing to jump in the Elun Prairie in Inner Mongolia. On the prairie, they met the Mongol herder Bilig and his family, and they also saw the most awesome animal on the prairie: the wolf. In the process of contact with wolves, Chen Zhen became very interested in this species, and even wanted to raise a little wolf by himself.
Field director Bao Shungui greedily looted the yellow sheep stored by the wolves for the winter through Sanjie, breaking the ecological balance between the wolves and herdsmen; while Chen Zhen took the opportunity to take away one of the wolf cubs. Little wolf cubs, the relationship between wolves and humans is getting worse, but Bao Shungui approved Chen Zhen to raise wolves in the name of research. Later, the wolves began to attack the herdsmen, and even launched sneak attacks that led to the death of a large number of military horses. Bao Shungui and the production team even launched a wolf extermination campaign, which brought the relationship between the wolves and humans into a tense situation. In the end, the wolves were completely wiped out, but Chen Zhen and Yang Ke also ended their trips to the countryside. Before leaving, Chen Zhen visited Old Billige who had passed away and released the wolf he raised.
