It was the EV1 that director Chris Payne drove from 1998 to 2003, and after the car was taken back by GM, he bought the RAV4 EV, which was briefly released by Toyota.

In 1996, GM developed the exhaust-free and environmentally friendly pure electric vehicle EV1. At the beginning, the EV1 was only offered to car owners in the form of long-term leases, and no sales began. Later, the car was not accepted by the general public due to its high price and hours of charging every 80 miles, making it extremely inconvenient to use.
In 2000 GM decided to stop making the EV1. However, some California owners who have rented this car like the EV1 very much. They believe that its performance is not inferior to traditional cars. It is quiet and has no gasoline smell. Although the cruising range is not as good as the car, it is enough for urban transportation. These car owners are very reluctant to hand over EV1s. Confused and skeptical about what GM was going to do with these electric cars, they formed a group of riders to track the whereabouts of all EV1s. They even used helicopters to search for possible locations and eventually found more than 50 crushed EV1 "corpses" in an abandoned wasteland.
The owners are outside an open-air factory in California, and these owners take turns on duty, guarding dozens of EV1s 24 hours a day, preventing GM from transporting them away for scrap. GM ended up sending trucks to pull all the EV1s away and destroy them .
