"When They See Us" is adapted from a true story that once caused a sensation in the country. This film tells a notorious unjust case: five teenagers known as the "Gang of Five in Central Park" were wrongly convicted of rape. This four-episode limited series will focus on five teenagers in Harlem, namely Antrony McRae, Kevin Richardson, Youssef Salam, Raymond Santana and Ko Lee Wise. The story begins in the spring of 1989, when these teenagers were questioned for the first time because of the rape incident. The whole story will span 25 years. The climax is that they were finally acquitted in 2002 and reached a settlement agreement with New York City in 2014

"When They See Us" was created by Ava Djolie, who is also the co-writer and director of the four-episode series. Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King of Participant Media, Oprah Winfrey of Harpo Films, Jane Rosenthal, Berry Welsh and Robert De Niro of Tribeca Productions Yoke is the producer of this limited series under her Forward Movement banner. In addition to Djolie, Attica Rock, Robin Schweickard and Mike Stabriel also served as screenwriters for this limited series
