The 450 soldiers of the 1st Battalion of the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division of the US Army, under blind command, landed in the central area where the North Vietnamese army was assembled without knowing and unprepared. However, on the way, due to the lack of experience of the second battalion commander, he ordered the column that had been dragged to 500 yards in the jungle to stop advancing just to interrogate two prisoners of war. It hit the new force of North Vietnam with its weak firepower, and a battalion was almost wiped out in the fierce battle.
