From the material research to the final editing, the production of "Waltz With Bashir" lasted four years. The material research alone took the director Ari Folman a whole year. He recruited 12 Israelis who participated in the first Lebanese War. party. After the research was completed, Ali began to shoot in the studio. After 8 months, the shooting was completed. The film was 96 minutes long, and then he was involved in animation production. It is very torturous to convert real-life images into animations. 10 animators do this job. Each person works 9 hours a day to complete 37 frames. Initially, I hope to produce 6 minutes of animation every month, but In fact, this requirement is a bit high, four minutes is more realistic, and it took two years to complete the animation.
One minute before the end of the film, some real shots reflecting the results of the Holocaust were added to the animation. This is also the director Harman's acknowledgement that animation alone cannot fully show the horror of the incident. Foreman explained that the reason for using the final shot was to make the whole film fit the subject, and the last 50 seconds of the footage was very necessary for him.
