The last posthumous work of the great French director Louis Malle uses a rather complicated way of play within a play to discuss life as a play, and play as the delicate intertwined relationship of life. Many actors in the film are sometimes themselves, and sometimes become characters in the play, interpreting the tangled emotional relationship between them in the real and false life interaction. The image of the whole film is relatively monotonous, but the acting is quite wonderful, and was selected as one of the ten best films of the 1990s by the Associated Press.
