The film is adapted from Homer's epic work "The Iliad". The epic was completed in the 8th century BC, 300 to 400 years after the supposed fall of Troy. However, it is still a mystery whether Homer compiled the oral history that existed at the time or Homer was the only original author of this work. It became the most convincing literary work to record this period of history.
The screenwriter of the film is David Benioff, who wrote the script for Spike Lee’s "25 Hours." Producer Diana Rasburn commented that its description of characters is very profound. Sometimes, these classic literary works Because of the age, the audience will have an insurmountable sense of distance, but the report uses similar emotions to connect the characters thousands of years ago with the people of today. Director Peterson approached the graphic designer Nigel Phelps to help him construct this illusory and unusual ancient world. Nigel has a good understanding of that era, and his first sketch is exceptionally beautiful. He led his creative team to immerse himself in various books and research materials.
Most of the research work of the production team was done in the British Museum, because there are some collections excavated in Turkey on display, and many people believe that the ruins of Troy are there. However, as for what the Troy of the era portrayed in "Iliad" looked like, there is still a lot of room for imagination. To be precise, the city of Troy in the film is larger than its actual size. Most of the stories in the film take place in and around the city. The main parts include the beach when the Greek soldiers landed, the battlefield outside the city wall, the city of Troy, and the palace in the city; There are also the Thessaloniki Valley, Sparta and Mycenae cities in mainland Greece.
