This film is adapted from the award-winning memoir "Toast" (translated as "Toast", or "Toast: Teenage Hunger") by British food writer Nigel Slater's memoir of the same name. "Toast" is a kitchen adventure that recalls the author's childhood and adolescence in central England in the 1960s. Shortly after the publication of "Toast" in 2003, producer Ruby bought the rights to the film and approached the well-known screenwriter Lee Hall (Hall) to write the script, and Hall was responsible for rewriting the script.
"I quickly realized that this work should not be missed, so I agreed. Of course, this is a story about food, about growth, and about loss." Since then, the film has been in preparation because of the lack of suitable candidates. Until January 2010, the producer of British Broadcasting Corporation took the initiative to contact them. Later, the author Slater himself also participated in the filming work. He gave a lot of comments on the details, and also made a friendly cameo.
