The first half is a childhood story in which everyone will have fantasies about bad and terrifying things. In the second half, the father’s court trial taught the children to understand the law, race, justice, and the meaning of life.

Two things 1. Democracy is not necessarily a good thing. Once a group has formed a desirable prejudice, democracy is a tool that promotes the transformation of prejudice into oppression. 2. The hypocrisy community. Looking at this, you will think of Lars von Trier’s American trilogy. The white lady shouted in the court to let every gentleman present justice for her, and morality became a kind of injustice. A code of conduct that requires people to think about it. People tend to maintain a kind of consistency with their own community, rather than thinking about the right and wrong of things themselves. Such a moral view is immoral in its essence, and the sense of justice built on this foundation is itself a kind of hypocrisy.

[about Jem]
Scout: You can pet him, Mr. Arthur. He's asleep. Couldn't if he was awake, though; he wouldn't let you. Go ahead.

Mayella Ewell: I got somethin' to say. And then I ain't gonna say no more. He took advantage of me. An' if you fine, fancy gentlemen ain't gonna do nothin' about it, then you're just a bunch of lousy, yella, stinkin' cowards, the - the whole bunch of ya, and your fancy airs don't come to nothin'. Your Ma'am'in' and your Miss Mayellarin' - it don't come to nothin', Mr. Finch, not... no.
