Timbuktu positive review

"Timbuktu" is a brief history of modern life and religious tragedies in Africa. It is full of restraint and tension, amazing and shocking. There is no preaching, only the sad and poetic pictures and the lives of ordinary people, but what is shown is another world that is difficult to understand or escape from the understanding of the vast majority of the world   .
"Timbuktu" downplays the main body of the story. Fragmented editing makes the film look more like a combination of fragments. Through the fragments, the audience can get a glimpse of Timbuktu, its heartbreaking depression and the irreplaceable despair of the city's residents. Facing conflicts, tactful rejections, and even sneaky overstepping, can't escape the fate of tragedy. They are like lifeless camelgrass floating in the desert sky. It was originally a precious green in the desert. Once uprooted by the wind, there will be no suitable soil for landing before it dies   .
The film is different from other films that show the tragic reality of the Third World. Hisak’s display of absurdity is far greater than violence. He has no natural fascination with blood. Instead, he points out the absurdity and even stupidity of terrorists through some humorous magical pens   .

Timbuktu quotes

  • Omar: Satima?

    Satima: I'm listening.

Omar: I'm Abdelkarim's driver. I have a message from him: "He can't do anything to help. It's over".

  • L'Imam: [to a jihadist] Stop this. You cause harm to Islam and Muslims. You put children in danger in front of their poor mother. You even hit the mother of two children without any good reason. Before you came, a woman was here to complain that you forced her to wear gloves-- here they are-- without convincing her of their usefulness, as is prescribed by Allah and His prophet. Remember the words of Allah the Almighty: "So pardon them. Consult them in the matter. Speak with them. Once you've made a decision, put your trust in Allah, for He loves those who rely upon Him." Where's leniency? Where's forgiveness? Where's piety? Where's exchange... exchange? Where is God in all this?
