Thinner Film review 2: : full of characters, not enough horror

A good story may not always be adapted into a good movie. The film "Thinner" is a vivid example. As Stephen King's work, the quality of the original story cannot be said, but it is difficult to become a classic after being adapted into a movie. The reason is that the horror and mystery of the movie are not enough.
On the whole, the rhythm of the movie is too slow, and it even makes people feel that the plot is a little procrastinated. It lacks the tension brought by the high rhythm in the thriller. The movie seems to be telling a thrilling story in the style of a drama film, which is inadvertent. In between, the horror of the movie has been weakened by three points. Partially speaking, the director's control of the thriller atmosphere is not good enough. The scene that can be called a thriller in the movie is the scene where the hero visits the cursed police chief. In the second half of the film, the hero finds the Gypsy and is eager to relieve him The curse, I thought it would be the most exciting paragraph in the movie, but I didn't want to end up using violence to control violence, forcing the old man Gypsy to remove the curse for himself. In addition, the description of the mysterious witchcraft of the Gypsy people in the film is not enough. It is just hurriedly explained through a few lines, which makes the "mysterious" curse in the film lose its mysterious value.
Although the director failed to control the whole of the movie well, and failed to refine the parts of the movie, but in the shaping of the characters, the director still put a lot of effort into shaping the image of the male protagonist very well. At the beginning of the movie It explained that the male protagonist is a fat man who is craving for food. His craving for food is just like his craving for money. After killing the old Gypsy's daughter, he used his connections and money to help himself escape the lawsuit, but he couldn't escape the curse of the Gypsy people, so he gradually lost weight. This abnormal weight loss made him start to fear and worry , began to be suspicious, he gradually distrusted the people around him, he found out that his wife was cheating, so he put all the responsibilities on his wife, believing that it was his wife who killed him, and his inflated desire gradually diminished. But it revealed a truly evil mind. After the curse was lifted, he didn't realize the punishment he really deserved. He returned home with the cursed "strawberry pie" and tricked his wife into eating it. Going down, unexpectedly, his daughter also ate a small piece. After learning the truth, he remembered what the old man Gypsy had persuaded him, and his inner despair and remorse welled up, just when he wanted to commit suicide. When the doorbell rang, the man who had an affair with his wife came to visit. The evil of human nature swallowed up the remorse he had just generated in an instant. He tricked the man into the house. The film also ended at this time and left it to the audience. An open ending.
Everyone in the movie has "evil" in them, and the process of losing weight of the male protagonist is also the process of gradually revealing the "evil" in his personality. The director focuses on the portrayal of human nature, in fact, he wants to make the movie more profound, But I didn't find a balance between the horror and depth of the movie. After watching the movie, I felt that the movie was more plot-oriented, and horror and horror were just a handful of flavorings. However, I still admire the special effects and makeup techniques in the movie, which turned a 300-pound fat man into a 120-pound skinny man. "Thinner" itself is a very good subject matter, if it can be remade, with the entertainment spirit and technology of today's Hollywood, maybe it can create a horror classic.
