Gortier Horn and Meryl Streep wanted to star in the film after reading the script, but they finally decided to star in "Flying Over the Longevity" together.
A total of 5 identical Thunderbirds produced in 1966 were used in the film. One "lead actor", one camera, one spare, and two as stunt cars.
George Clooney, who was still struggling with his acting career at the time, had auditioned five times, but the role of JD eventually fell on Brad Pitt.
When filming the erotic scene between Gina Davis and Brad Pitt, director Ridley Scott considered preparing a stand-in for Gina and began auditioning for actors. When Gina learned of the director’s At first, she firmly stated that there was no need to use a substitute.
Chel was once invited to play the role of Louis, but she refused.
In the scene where the tank truck was hit and exploded, the reactions of Susan Sarandon and Gina Davis were actually real. Instead of shooting the reaction shots separately, the director secretly detonated the tank truck during the filming, just to get the most real shock from the faces of the two protagonists. However, they were so surprised, they just stood there and stared at everything in front of them, forgetting to perform something else. Scott had to re-photograph their reaction.
Originally, Salma and Louise will be starred by Michelle Pfeiffer and Judy Foster, Ridley Scott is the producer, and Carrie Curry (screenwriter) will be the director. In the end, the preparation time lasted too long, and neither Pfeiffer nor Foster had time to wait any longer. So Scott was persuaded to direct him.
Finding the role of Louise took the producer so much time that Gina Davis asked for a contract to be signed, saying that the producer agreed to her to play any role as long as she wanted to.
The scene where Darry slipped and fell in the food storage room when he finished work and walked away is not in the script. In fact, Christopher Macdonald really slipped and wrestled. Although he walked into the car and drove away during the acting, he couldn't help but yelled at the staff. Ridley Scott liked the ending very much, so I kept it in the film.
Ridley Scott liked Hans Zimmer’s music so much that he additionally produced a main subtitle sequence tableinstead of putting it in Ending cast in the subtitles list.
Ridley Scott filmed a longer ending, and just as we saw the car rushing into the valley, BB King’s songs echoed in the background music. Instead, he chose a more optimistic ending, the car stopped on the uphill road, and then Hans Zimmer's music sounded.
Ridley Scott used many suggestions from Susan Sarandon during production. Some of her suggestions are the final editing of the film: On the screen, Louise is putting shoes in her plastic bag while doing the final warm-up exercise for the women’s weekend mountain climbing; Louise exchanges her jewelry with the old man’s hat; Louise Silk stopped a car in the desert at night and stared at the starry sky alone while Salma slept in the car. Sarandon and her husband Tim Robbins also re-adapted the conversation between Louise and her boyfriend Jimmy in Oklahoma.
