Kitty Genovese's brother, William Genovese, had always had a close relationship with his sister, who was just 16 when she was killed. He has always believed in the "New York Times" news report that "38 people watched in cold blood", and many of his life choices were also affected by this
. A few years later, when the U.S. drafted for Vietnam, he didn't want to do nothing like the 38, so he joined the Marines and went to Vietnam, where he lost his legs
. Afterwards, The Times re-examined the case, saying that the New York Times' report was flawed. William Genovese therefore decided to find out the truth of the events himself, and co-produced the film with director James D. Solomon
