The film was released in North America on November 20, 2009, and it was accounted for 72.7 million US dollars on the first day, breaking the 67.2 million of last year's "Dark Knight" in one fell swoop, setting a new box office record for the first day in North America. With a box office of 140 million U.S. dollars in three days in North America, it became the third-highest box office film in the first week of history. The first two were "The Dark Knight" (158 million) and "Spider-Man 3" (151 million). Although the film was only released in 25 countries, it earned 118 million at the box office on its first day of release, of which 18.7 million were in the UK, 13 million in Italy, 17 million in France, and 13.7 million in Spain. The world's total box office in three days reached 258 million.
