In the early 1990s, producer Michael Aslan bought the rights to the live-action film adaptation of the comic "The Spirit" and assured the original author that he would not give the film to anyone who did not understand the "essence" of the original comic. In the hands of the director. The main "essence" is two points. The ghost in the movie must have a beautiful uniform; after he is resurrected, he must have powerful superpowers. Later, a comic book fan named John Turman hoped to write the script for the film.
In July 2004, OddLot Entertainment bought the rights to film the film. So two more producers joined in, and they adapted the script together with Aslan. In May 2005, the production company hired Jof Lieber to write the script, but in the end, he left. Later, Aslan met Frank Miller. He was impressed by Miller's adaptation skills and invited him to be the director and screenwriter of "The Spirit". At first Frank Miller was hesitant, worried that he didn't have much director experience, but in the end, he decided to seize this opportunity. In July 2006, Frank Miller officially became the director of "The Spirit". By February 2007, Frank Miller completed the first draft of the script and began to write the second draft. In October, the film was launched at Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
