#三次重看#4.5; It is indeed a prelude to "Mask", the two-person dominance & subordination relationship, the close-up of the face presents endless drama in the changing light, the face is the external manifestation of the soul, and the nightmare is The pre-rehearsal of death, as if the lens embedded in the pupil hits the deep heart, its fear and tremor are no less than any horror film; the aphasia atmosphere of the small town is an island of imprisonment that cannot be communicated, and a cry of blood that eagerly craves.

These trilogy truly embodies the director’s skepticism towards theology. It can be said that "The Seventh Seal" and "The Virgin Spring" did not completely deny the concept of God. However, "Still in the Mirror" doubted the existence of God, "Winter Day The denial of God in "Light" and the discussion of the relationship between people in the absence of God in "The Silence" not only negates the concept of God, but also reveals Bergman's later film themes about the dilemma of character communication and psychological shadows.

The Silence quotes

  • Ester: I didn't want to accept my wretched role. But now it's too damn lonely. We try out attitudes and find them all worthless. The forces are all too strong. I mean the forces... the horrible forces. You need to watch your step among all the ghosts and memories.

Ester: All this talk... There's no need to discuss loneliness. It's a waste of time.

  • Ester: No, I don't want to die like this. I don't want to suffocate. Oh, that was horrible. Now I'm frightened. That scared me. That mustn't happen again.

Ester: Where's the doctor? Must I die all alone?
