The Shawshank Redemption Music Production

The soundtrack of the film was composed by Thomas Newman. He felt that even the absence of music in the film was enough to generate strong appeal, so it was difficult to take the plot to a new level without ensuring that the music did not distract the audience. The music that sounded after Andy escaped from prison was called "Shawshank Redemption". The theme was originally composed of three notes, but the director felt that this was too "triumphal and prosperous", and requested that it be changed to a single-note theme. After Rhett's release, the soundtrack was "Rhett Has Come". Until he discovered the objects hidden by Andy, Newman was satisfied with the soundtrack. The composition was originally oboe solo, and the author reluctantly agreed to join the harmonica part at the director's request, which means that Reid received the harmonica left by Andy to continue the journey of hope. Director De Labont said that harmonica player Tommy Morgan (Tommy Morgan) improvised a satisfying tune in just one time, which is the final version included in the film. Newman’s soundtrack is still used in the trailers of many movies many years after the film was released.

The Shawshank Redemption quotes

  • [after Brooks held a knife to Heywood's throat]

Andy Dufresne: I just don't understand what happened in there.

Heywood: Old man's crazy as a rat in a tin shithouse, is what.

Red: Oh Heywood, that's enough out of you!

Ernie: I heard he had you shittin' in your pants!

    Heywood: Fuck you!

Red: Would you knock it off? Brooks ain't no bug. He's just... just institutionalized.

    Heywood: Institutionalized, my ass.

Red: The man's been in here fifty years, Heywood. Fifty years! This is all he knows. In here, he's an important man. He's an educated man. Outside, he's nothin'! Just a used up con with arthritis in both hands.

  • Red: [narrating, referring to the warden committing suicide] I'd like to think that the last thing that went through his head, other than that bullet, was to wonder how the hell Andy Dufresne ever got the best of him.
