In 1952, Thomas, an old British journalist, enjoyed his leisurely life in Saigon with his beautiful and gentle mistress, a Vietnamese woman. Although this obedient woman knew that he had a family in England, she wanted nothing else.
A handsome young American, Aiden, came to Saigon with an idealistic passion, hoping to participate in medical assistance. His enthusiasm moved Thomas. For a long time, Thomas has carefully maintained a neutral attitude, just observing quietly, doing his job as a news reporter. Soon he discovered that Aiden was hooked on red, and the newspaper headquarters in London ordered him to stop his activities in Vietnam and return home.
Thomas decided to dig out a big piece of news and report a massacre in the war zone so that he could stay in Vietnam. Aiden followed him into the battlefield and confessed to him his love for Hong, saying that he would propose to her. Unexpectedly, Hong turned down Aiden's marriage proposal. On the other hand, Thomas gradually realized that Aiden didn't seem to be as innocent as he seemed   .
