In February 1974, "The Punisher" appeared for the first time in "The Amazing Spider-Man" and soon entered popular culture as a representative of "anti-hero" characters.
Although the "punisher" is not a typical superhero of Marvel comics, Marvel still believes that it should be brought to the big screen. After watching "Welcome Back Frank" in two hours, Jonathan Hanslin picked up the phone and told Marvel that he decided to take the shot.
In the adaptation of the script, Hanslin further developed the original revenge theme, creating new characters and new plots. In the original book, Frank Custer’s family died in a riot in Central Park, Hanslin conceived a darker plot, and Custer’s family became targets of revenge. At the same time, the script also contains two co-existing revenge stories, that is, Custer and his opponent are both in revenge, but the former's revenge is just, while the latter's is evil.
