Chinese audiences are more familiar with the 1981 remake starring Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange , but this first edition is the true classic. The film was shot in 1946, just after World War II. Director Ty Garnett 's description of eroticism was quite bold at that time, and the performances of John Garfield and Judy were also dramatic. Now it seems that the rhythm of the whole film is too slow, but the suspenseful atmosphere of the plot is still well managed. The story has previously been filmed twice in France and Italy.
