- The story of the novel takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the 1990s. The film was shot in Pittsburgh from May to June 2011.
- The film was shot at Peters Township High School in Pittsburgh. There is a scene in which the characters put on costumes for the "Rocky Horror Show", which was filmed at the Hollywood Theater in Dormont. In reality, the author and director of the novel, Choboski himself, used to watch the performance of "Rocky Horror Show" when he was a child.
- The film was originally rated as R-rated by the MPAA Association of America because of the "scene involving teenage drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and some sex." The producer, Summit Entertainment, is considering that the film is scheduled to be released in a small area in North America. If it is R-rated, it will be very beneficial to the box office. But in the end, considering the popularity of the lead actor, Summit Entertainment eventually cut the film to PG-13 level.
- The film has its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada on September 8, 2012. It will be released in a small number of cities in North America starting on the 21st, and will be expanded to the entire United States on October 8. Its UK premiere was held at the Cambridge Film Festival on September 23.
