The Mist Creative background

The story material on which the film is based comes from the novella of the same name written by Stephen King in 1984. However, when the novel was put on the big screen and was challenged by contemporary politics, Stephen King had no intention of creating political controversy. He believes that the story told in "The Mist" comes from the Vietnam War and various conflicts in that special period, and the part that may be questioned is precisely an indispensable and important element of the film.
The film is the third collaboration between Stephen King and Frank Darabont after "Shawshank's Redemption" and "Green Mile". In 2004, Paramount got the right to adapt the film and reached a cooperation agreement with Frank Darabont, and then Frankt began to adapt the script. In 2006, the production of the film was transferred to Dimeng Pictures and it was finally confirmed that Frank Darabont was the director, with Thomas Jain as the starring role. In January 2007, the other cast members of the film were basically determined, and then filming was started, and the film was finished shortly afterwards.
Frank Darabont said that no matter what, monsters are just a decoration of a story. The ultimate core is human nature and the environment of human existence.

The Mist quotes

  • Wayne Jessup: I heard stuff.

    Mrs. Carmody: Stuff...

Wayne Jessup: Yeah, we all heard stuff! Like uh, how they... they thought that there were other dimensions. You know, other... other worlds all around us, and how they wanted to try to make a window, you know, so they can look through and see what's on the other side.

Mrs. Carmody: Well maybe your window turned out to be a door. Isn't it?

Wayne Jessup: Not my door! It's the scientists!

Mrs. Carmody: [sarcastically] Oh, the scientists.

Wayne Jessup: Yes, the scientists! They must've ripped a hole through by accident. That's how their world keeps on spilling through into ours. That's what Donaldson was saying right before he killed himself. I didn't understand half of it.

  • Dan Miller: [after the car runs out of gas] Well, we gave it a good shot. Nobody can say we didn't.
