The "protagonist" in "The Silent Look" is Adi, a 44-year-old man in 2014. He was born after the Indonesian massacre broke out, and his elder brother Ramah was brutally killed in the 1966 massacre. The poor parents were burdened with great grief and brought up their youngest son Adi. In Adi's view, he was the one who took on the responsibility of the family in place of his elder brother. At first, Adi didn't know the ins and outs of that tragedy, but when Adi was led by Oppenheimer, he tried to find the murderer of his brother. However, the fundamental purpose of Adi’s participation in this documentary does not seem to be for revenge, let alone for accusation, but to show an attitude to the perpetrators of the year through this seemingly harmless behavior.
It is worth noting that Adi in front of the camera has a strong curiosity throughout his tone. During the investigation, he did not accuse anyone. Oppenheimer was somewhat surprised by Adi's overly indifferent, but he also accepted this fact. According to his original expectation, Adi would be extremely concerned about family trauma, thus constructing the emotional connection point between history and the present, but the effect is far from that.
"The Silent Look" throws out a lot of shocking historical materials, revealing the fallacies of the Indonesian authorities in describing history, and even gave objective comments on the right-wing remarks, but when Adi heard these facts, he revealed.
