Lin, a 13-year-old girl, lives in a house in the village not far from the sea. As a celebrity poet's father once told her: "The world is sinister, and only one person can gain the greatest freedom." In order to escape the suspicion of miscellaneous people, she devised various illusions to conceal the status quo of being alone. Whenever people visited, she did not excuse that her father was in the study or that he was not at home at all. In fact, Lin's parents have long since died, and her mother's body has been lying in the underground wine kiln. Uncontested, she is often harassed by the landlady, and the landlord’s son with a criminal record and pedophile also entangles uninvitedly from time to time. An accident made her get acquainted with Mario, a lame boy slightly older than her. Although Lin started to guard him, she finally told him about her and the secrets in this room after various trials and tribulations, and at the same time felt that she could not do without him more and more. Unfortunately, Mario was admitted to the hospital because of pneumonia, and the landlord's son pushed in again. Facing this human face and animal heart, how will Lin, who is lonely and helpless at this time, face?

The creators rely on extreme individualism in a corrupt collective (big environment) to take care of the black reality of "others are hell". Induces viewers to slack off objective cognition from a very subjective perspective, magnifies the misfortunes in ordinary life when the viewers take the standpoint of an extreme individual symbol (Lynn), and turns them into "Stephen King"-like shocks. After cooling down, the thoughts gradually returned to the cognitive standard of "poor people must be hateful".

A very novel and unique American goth, it would be better if there were more gothic elements. The core of the film is actually the three key confrontation scenes, which are very suitable for learning alone.

The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane quotes

  • Frank Hallet: You know how to survive, don't you?

Rynn Jacobs: I thought I did.

  • Mario Podesta: Yeah, but kids have to go to school.

    Rynn Jacobs: Why?

Mario Podesta: Okay, so your father taught you. Everybody doesn't have a father like yours. Everybody can't be like you.

Rynn Jacobs: If I'd listened to them, I'd be like them.

Mario Podesta: Damn. You keep saying "them" like everyone's out to get you.

    Rynn Jacobs: Maybe they are.
