Rescue the wronged death row prisoners from the brink of death, this kind of subject always feels like deja vu. Although the film’s attitude and technique are very ambitious, it doesn’t bring much novelty compared with some previous films involving the death penalty, and it’s not as cleverly handled as "Death Prisoner's Walk". When it comes to the cut-in angle of the film specifically, it focuses more on revealing the judicial penalty system in the United States and raises strong doubts about the death penalty system. Therefore, this is not just a common fake detective film that seeks the truth and punishes evil and promotes good. It is also not intended to achieve the goal of pleasing people's hearts. Its focus is still on the issue of death penalty, trying to use an extreme case to trigger thinking about a system, crime and punishment, so-called self-sacrifice and many other issues. However, the political intentions carried by the film are too obvious and straightforward, even preaching.
Layers of weaving, the plot construction that uncovers the truth like a peeling cocoon, creates a sense of tension with time competition, sets up suspense and doubts, and contrasts and interacts with several groups of characters. Director Parker is naturally very familiar with all these skills. In addition, the paragraphs are connected by disorderly montages, and some weird angle shots and words such as "pain", "self-sacrifice" and "honor" flashed quickly on the screen. Generally speaking, the film is more of a thriller style.
The film's solid cast is also a major focus. David Gore is indeed a more complex character with multiple personalities. Spassi continues to show his old acting skills. Every character he creates, no matter how ordinary, can always be given a unique charm. This is also true. No exception. But compared to his weird and surly villains, this role is not so glamorous. Laura Linney basically continued the performance in "Integrity Is Priceless" and competently interpreted the strength and fragility of this tragic figure Constance.

The Life of David Gale quotes

  • Constance Harraway: [giving an anti-death penalty speech] When you kill someone, you rob their family - not just of a loved one, but of their humanity. You harden their hearts with hate, you take away their capacity for civilized dispassion, you condemn them to bloodlust. It's a cruel and horrible thing, but indulging that hate will *never* help. The damage is done, and once we've had our pound of flesh, we're still hungry. We leave the death house muttering that lethal injection was just too good for them. In the end, a civilized society must live with a hard truth: he who seeks revenge digs two graves.

  • Berlin: [referring to her black panties] Rip them.

    David Gale: Huh?

    Berlin: Rip them off.

[Berlin then proceeds to take off David's pants, he then props her up on the bathroom sink and has sex with her]

    Berlin: No, from behind.

[He thrusts into her hard from behind]

    Berlin: Do it hard.
