In October 1957, in the small town of Rockwell, Maine, single mother Anne Hughes ran a small restaurant alone and raised her nine-year-old son Hogarth. Hogarth’s willful and fantasy-loving character always tries to find mutant aliens or alien invaders, so when a local fisherman came to the tavern and described seeing a huge iron man falling into the sea, only Hogarth paid much attention. His words, and ready to explore to find this big robot. Eventually he found this giant who is 50 feet tall and likes to eat metal. Rumors spread for a while. Some people said that aliens attacked, and some people said that the secret weapon of the Soviet Union had broken Rockwell's peace. The government sent commissioner Ken Mansley to investigate the matter. In order to protect the giant, Hogarth and his good friend Dean hid it in Dean's old garage.

The outside is giant steel, and the inside is a cute child. In a sense, it continues the theme of ET, but it also brings vigilance and reflection on the Cold War mentality and nuclear weapons. I hope such a robot will never die~

Simple and touching, gray and touching

The Iron Giant quotes

  • Annie Hughes: Strange. He's so tight-lipped now, and yesterday he wouldn't stop talking. I mean, hundred-foot robots and whatnot.

Kent Mansley: Hundred-foot robot? He, he. That's nutty.

    [they both laugh]

Kent Mansley: What else did he say?

  • General Rogard: [the U.S. Military proves unable to take down the Giant] Nothing can stop this thing! We've hit it with everything we got!

Kent Mansley: Not everything, General. The Bomb. The Nautilus has first strike capability and is anchored just off shore.

General Rogard: [Taken aback] ... You scare me, Mansley. You want us to bomb ourselves in order to kill it?

Kent Mansley: The robot seems to go after whatever attacks it. We can lure it away from the town, then destroy it.

General Rogard: [Considers the thought for a moment, then to a soldier;] Radio the Nautilus. Tell them to stand by and await my command.
