In the 1999 film "Defense of Justice" (also translated "The Hurricane"), in order to cater to the market, the film deliberately omitted many important facts, elevated the protagonist, and even made up fictional characters and plots. Because of similar controversies, the Oscar nomination was almost wiped out, and Denzel Hayes Washington Jr., who was only shortlisted for the Best Actor Award, also returned empty-handed.
Director Norman Jewison used a one-hundred-five-minute long story to describe the whole process of "The Hurricane" Carter's imprisonment, resistance, and final grievances. Tell the story of racial discrimination, the ending of the story can be imagined, mainly highlighting the belief that never give up survival. The audience can hardly see any special skills, only ordinary scenes with a calm tone are telling the story, and finally let out a sigh of emotion for the people in the play.
