11 years ago, John Michael Macdonald made his debut, the short film "Second Death". In that short film there is a young policeman named Gehry . A few years later, MacDonald picked up a pen to write the script for this little character. Later, because of all sorts of messy things, the script was only written on ten pages. Although there is a separate plot, it is not enough to be made into a short film. Macdonald still felt that he should finish writing the script. As a result, this ten-page script became "The Guard", and that ten-page short story became a small plot of Boyle examining the dead body in the farmhouse at the beginning of "The Guard". For this simple opening, MacDonald is very important, he said: "This is the core of the whole movie, we started the whole story from this plot. When I write, I write it in order. If there is no one A good starting point, everything behind is a fantasy. When I wrote this script, I didn’t think about how the following story would develop. I just write it slowly, little by little. Wait until I reach a certain plot. At that time, stories and characters appeared in my mind naturally."
Although McDonald has always said that the role of Boyle was not written for "Mad-Eye" Gleason, but he also admitted that if Gleason were not to play this role, then this movie would be completely different. A look. Speaking of starring in the film, Gleason said: "The script is very well written, and the plot that blooms makes me want to stop. Obviously, this film is very interesting and humorous, but at the same time it is very deep. In a sense, this is a police movie that is very similar to a western movie from the plot to the content. There are conspiracies, rebellion, and people's self-awareness. I like this story very much."

The Guard quotes

  • Sergeant Gerry Boyle: What's a derringer?

Colum Hennessey: It's like a baby gun. One of the gay lads used to... used to like secreting it on his person, you know.

Sergeant Gerry Boyle: There were gay lads in the IRA?

Colum Hennessey: There are one or two. Well, it was the only way we could successfully infiltrate the MI5.

  • Francis Sheehy: [dropping his binoculars] Nothing. Tomorrow night's sell, we're good to go.

    [thumbs up]

Clive Cornell: I fuckin' hate that.

    Francis Sheehy: What?

Clive Cornell: Americanisms. "Good to go."
