The 3D version of the film is scheduled to be released in Mainland China on January 8, 2015. This version is modified from the North American version
.
During the shooting, Wong Kar-wai planned to follow the 3D standards in both the action design and character settings, but the conditions were limited at that time and it was not realized. Later, the American team of more than 200 people spent nearly a year to complete the production of the 3D version. In addition to ensuring the smooth realization of the transformation in technology, action and function, many artistic conceptions and abstract things are all checked by Wong Kar-wai. Talking about the original intention of converting to 3D, Wong Kar-wai quoted the line of "The Grandmaster" as "I will never forget, there must be a response" as an explanation, thinking that this is a dream of his own.
There are two differences between the 3D conversion and the previous version. First of all, Yip Man told Gong Er that he hoped that he could see 64 hands again when he had a chance. This time he fulfilled his wish. The original 2D version of Zhao Benshan's Ding Lianshan also has more roles. The added Zhao Benshan's role was originally The sequel material, and later worried that everyone was waiting too long
