The film’s director John Carpenter was inspired by the monster hidden in the clouds in the British horror film "The Trollenberg Terror" (1958). After the first cut of the film was completed, the length of the film was only 80 minutes. Failed to meet the requirements of the producer. To extend the length of the film, director John Carpenter specially filmed a scene where the old sailor told the children about the legend of Blake in front of the bonfire. The film is one of the few horror films that cause panic with "realness". There are no bloody scenes or ghosts of computer stunts passing through the wall, but it relies on solid drama skills and the "fog" itself. The resulting creeping effect is enough to be creepy. Director John Carpenter used the expensive Panavision widescreen lens in the film at the right time. The gloomy effect achieved by it is so good that it is hard to think of this as a low-budget horror movie. In the film, the heroine Jamie Lee Curtis is known as the "Scream queen" in Hollywood. Her shocking screams in the film are in place, adding a lot to the film's thrilling atmosphere.
