In 1998, American novelist John Owen's novel "A Widow for One Year" was published. As soon as the novel came out, Tod Williams read the novel carefully and was moved to a complete mess. Then he found the producers Anne Kerry and Ted Hope , hoping to adapt the novel into a movie. The two producers agreed with this idea, and immediately found John Owen’s agent. The other said that Owen’s most concern was who was interested in the shooting plan. As a result, Annie Carey sent many letters to John Owen to explain the filming plan. In September 1999, when Anne Carrey and Ted Hope attended the Toronto International Film Festival with the work " Ride with the Devil ", they met John Owen who brought " The Cider House Rules " to the exhibition, which happened to be the star of the two films. It's all Toby Maguire. Under Toby Maguire’s recommendation, Ted Hope communicated TodWilliams’ ideas to John Owen for the first time. John Owen told Hopper that he had received the letter from them and was very interested in their ideas. I also asked to watch "The Adventures of Cole" edited by TodWilliams. After watching the film, John Owen nodded in praise of the idea of "only adapting the first third of the novel." In the spring of 2002, Annie Carey and Ted Hope jointly established a new film production company. At the same time, they began to prepare funding for the filming of "The Door in the Floor" and found the producer Michael Cullan. In particular, several parties subsequently jointly funded the filming of the film
