The film is the first screenplay written by British comedian Sally Phillips and her partner Neil Jaworski. People around her have been urging her to write a romantic comedy for a long time, but among the popular comedies, what she dislikes most is the cynicism and self-compassion in it. Sally Phillips expressed that she loves Scotland and she believes that the film should be a "super romantic Disney style" film about Scotland.
