Philip Marloweis a private investigator. He was invited to the home of Sternwoodon this day. Sternwood asked Marlowe to investigate about his daughter. A debt, his daughter Carmen Sternwoodowes a gambling debt to a man named Geiger. When Marlowe was about to leave, Sternwood’s eldest daughter Vivienneplayed byplaced him in the column and told him that the real purpose of her father’s investigation was to find a missing friend. Marlowe was skeptical. The next day Marlowe went to search for Geiger, but heard a gunshot in front of Geiger’s house. When Marlowe entered, only Geiger’s body and Carmen Sternwood tied up were found. There is also a camera. Marlowe took the camera and sent Carmen Sternwood home. When Marlowe returned to the scene, he found that Geiger's body was gone. The driver of Sternwood's family was also killed in a car accident. The case became more and more confusing   .
