The love story of the film is a very dizzy story, with suspense as the background, so it is even more confusing and unusual. Few people can understand, just like many people only remember the "femme beauty" and the lonely detective. A group of deadly beauties, represented by Betty Joan Perske, wear broad-shouldered clothes. They are very strong, and they want to get around the omnipotent gods and men in the usual detective dramas. And "femme beauties" tend to fall in love with Humphrey Bogart who does not look tall, not short, looks ugly, and looks like a vicissitudes of life, because they are like opponents at certain moments, and at certain moments like fathers
.
This film is a classic black film with exquisite and symmetrical structure and a compact narrative. The famous writer Faulkner participated in the screenwriting, and the plot was so complicated that even the original author Chandler could not figure out who did one of the murders. The dialogue in the film is concise, sharp and exciting, and the performance is seamless. The 1978 remake was more faithful to the original, but moved the scene from Los Angeles to London.
