"The Best Years of Our Lives" is a very historically significant film. However, if measured by the level of film art creation, the film can only be regarded as a high-level soap opera. The scripting and directing techniques are smooth but not delicate enough. Part of it has gradually shifted from social issues to tear-making love stories. Relying on the excellent performance of the actors and the atmosphere of the plot itself, it is not the most outstanding masterpiece in terms of the directorial works of William Wyler. The film is divided into three groups of characters to show the veterans' physical and mental adaptation problems after returning to their hometowns. However, when the director and director of the three groups simultaneously take into account the parallel development of the three groups of characters, it is not enough to speak freely and to write emotions incisively and vividly. On the whole, the length of the film seems to be too long, the drama is relatively loose, and the viewing value is reduced with the passage of time  .

At first I thought that many of the Oscars won by this movie were due to the background of the times, which is good, but even if you don’t talk about so many meanings, only from the technical level, photography, performance, and lines are all excellent. Describes the veterans who retired after World War II and returned to their respective lives, examining the profound impact of the war. The technique and perspective are plain and simple, a little bland compared to the intense and radical reflection of the deer hunter, but still solid.
