The Armacostes living in Houston live a comfortable and happy life. His wife Gillian (Charlize Theron Charlize Theron) is an elementary school teacher, and her husband Spencer (Johnny Depp Jonny Depp) works for NASA astronaut. In order to repair the malfunctioning satellite, Spencer and his old partner Alex Shrek (Nick Cassavetes) enter earth orbit. However, the original simple mission had an accident, and the malfunctioning satellite exploded, causing the two to lose contact with the earth for two minutes. Fortunately, they were fine, and eventually returned to Earth safely.
After that, Spencer and Alex never said anything about the mysterious two minutes, and Gillian also had a foreboding from their silence. Not long before Spencer decided to resign and his wife moved to New York, Alex and his wife Natalie (Donna Murphy) were killed. Gillian was deeply disturbed by this. She faintly felt that some ominous events would happen to her and her husband.
