On the morning of December 24, 1994, an Air France Airbus plane was hijacked by four Islamic militants at Algiers Houari Boumediene Airport , the capital of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria , with 265 passengers and 12 crew members on board being held hostage. And killed two hostages that night. The passengers on the plane included Algerians , Algerian dual nationals and diplomats from the French embassy in Algeria. Most of them went back to France for Christmas. The plane was hijacked just before takeoff. The militants belong to an extremist group of the Islamic Salvation Front, and they have issued an ultimatum to release two detained Islamic Salvation Front leaders before 9:00 GMT on the 25th, otherwise they will kill more hostages.
In the early morning of the 26th, the hijacked French passenger plane landed at Marseille Airport in France. French authorities continued negotiations with the hijackers. As the terrorists refused to hand over the hostages, Prime Minister ElBaradeer decided to resolve it by force and dispatched a well-trained and experienced French National Gendarmerie Action Team.
