Caseylost her mother in the third wave of attacks. Her fathertook her and her younger brother Samfled to the refugee camp. When the soldiers entered the refugee camp, they immediately thought they were saved. Colonel Vossclaimed that they were here to help the refugees, and that the army would take all the children away so that they would be given priority to protect them, and then come back to rescue the adults. Although Casey's father was reluctant, he still agreed to let the two children leave with Voss' troops. Because Sam forgot to take the beloved teddy bear, Casey went back to the refugee camp to find it, but before she hurried back, the bus left with the other children, and the siblings were forced to separate. After returning to the refugee camp, Casey and other refugees quickly discovered that aliens can live in humans, so no one can trust them. But the soldiers and other survivors had a fierce dispute over what to do next, which led to the army killing all the refugees. Casey successfully escaped and vowed to rescue Sam
