The film seems to be an absurd horror movie, but it is actually an extremely serious work. The metal in the movie has shaped a cold future world for human beings. It explores the consequences of human alienation, which will lead to a mad and icy world where humanity huddles humbly in a dilapidated corner with no future in sight.
Director Shinya Tsukamoto boldly expresses his personal aesthetic pursuit in this debut film, he frantically displays maggot-covered flesh and gradually decaying human body, eager to highlight a kind of erosion and corruption.
