The time was 1865 and the location was Kyoto, one of the ancient capitals of Japan.
The headquarters of the Xinseng Group is located in a tall temple. In the training hall, a competition is underway to assess the swordsmanship of the new recruits. Commander Isamu Kondo and his lieutenant Tokata Suizo watched the battle. The best swordsman in the army, Souji Okita, was examining the candidates.
Two people were taken over: Kana Sosaburo, a handsome young swordsman from an urban family in Kyoto, and Hyozo Wada, a former low-ranking warrior of the Kumu tribe.
Shinsengumi was created by the Tokugawa shogunate three years ago to recruit swordsmen from all over Japan to control the actions of increasingly powerful radical Japanese samurai and maintain peace in the Kyoto area. Its main purpose was to suppress the revolutionary movement against the shogunate. The military regulations of this unit are prominently hung on the wall of the barracks. Military regulations represent their situation: they are strictly bound by military guidelines.
After reading the military regulations, Tashiro asked Kana So Saburo, "Why do you want to join the Shinsengumi?" Kana So Saburo just smiled. Since the first day they joined the army, Tashiro has been deeply attracted by the unique charm of Kana So Saburo.
The next day, a member of the Xinseng Team was executed for violating military regulations. Kondo called Kana Sosaburo the executioner, and the young man calmly beheaded the prisoner without splashing a drop of blood on him. Kondo admires Kana Sosaburo very much, saying that he "has courage." But Suzuzo Tukata felt that So Saburo's courage was very special. One month after Sosaburo joined Shinsengumi, his beauty caused many rumors. Some people said that "he is still a virgin", some said that "Tashiro wants to attack Sosaburo, but he has been avoiding Tashiro", and others Said, "So Saburo still has a boyish hairstyle, which shows that he has a homosexual tendency" and so on.
One day, Susaburo Tosaburo and Tashiro competed together. Obviously, So Saburo's swordsmanship was more superb, but he softened somehow, and was finally defeated by Tashiro. Looking at them, Tufang Suishan was convinced that there was a homosexual relationship between them. Another man was also staring at the game attentively. He was Uzawa Dojiro who was fascinated by So Saburo. In the autumn, Kondo and a few of his companions went to the birthplace of the anti-shogun movement to denounce these rebels. While Kondo was out, an accident happened. So Saburo got to know Saburo Inohara, one of the leaders of Shinsengumi.
Although most of the Xinseng Team is composed of radical young men, Yineng is a man who is over 40 years old and lives an uncontested life with a unique personality. He comes from the same province as Kondo, Tsutomu Suizo, and Okita, and has learned fencing in all the schools they have studied. At the same time, Yineng is the same as Kondo and Tufang Suishan, and comes from a peasant family. Since the creation of Xinseng Group, Yineng has been its main leader. So there are rumors that these four people are actually ruling this army. But unlike the other three, Yineng's fencing skills are not good.
One day, So Saburo must practice fencing with Ino, because So Saburo can help Ino improve. Their exercises went on crappy. The two anti-shogunate samurai happened to pass by and laughed at their movements, "Is this the Shinsengumi unit?"
The following year, the anti-shogunate samurai held a secret meeting in a small inn called "Ikuta Family". After Xinsengumi learned of the incident, he conducted a raid on the inn. As a result, Shinsengumi lost its reputation as a "rapist group". So Saburo regretted the humiliation of Shinsengumi. Youze used his mental anxiety to force him to develop a homosexual relationship with him.
Tosaburo ordered So Saburo to close the case. After a thorough search, So Saburo found two samurai who had been monitoring them. That night, Ino and So Saburo raided the inn where the two samurai stayed. Ino was injured and So Saburo was scratched on his forehead. But they were eventually rescued by reinforcements sent by the Turkish side. On the way back to the headquarters of the Shinsengumi troops, Tashiro and the injured Sosaburo walked side by side and called his name over and over again, arousing the jealousy of Uzawa next to him.
Kondo returned to Kyoto on a winter day full of snow, but Uzawa was murdered. Under the order of Tufang Suishan, Yamazaki launched an investigation into the matter, but could not find any clues about the murderer. In the spring, Tsukiji ordered Yamazaki to find a woman for So Saburo because Kondo was worried that homosexuality would prevail among Shinsengumi members.
Yamazaki kept inviting So Saburo to a brothel, but he declined. So Saburo misunderstood his meaning and thought that Yamazaki wanted to induce him to do something wrong. But a month later, So Saburo began to show his friendship with Yamazaki. To keep himself away from the charming So Saburo, Yamazaki introduced him to a prostitute. Convinced that his love for Yamazaki will be realized, So Saburo rejected the prostitutes and caused a riot. Someone ambushed Yamazaki on his way home that night. His counterattack repelled the killer, but the latter dropped a knife on the scene. Yamazaki conducted an investigation and found that the knife belonged to Tashiro. Kondo decided to kill Tashiro. He asked So Saburo to carry out the mission and sent Tsuzumi and Okita to protect him in secret.
As night fell, Tufang Shuizan and Okita were waiting by the river. Okita mentioned that if anyone tried to stand between Kondo and Tufang Shuizan, that person must be put to death. He tells the story of ghosts and gods to Tufang Suishan, a homosexual episode. Listening to these, Tukata Suisan began to imagine the relationship between So Saburo and several men.
So Saburo and Tashiro appeared by the river, and a sword-like battle began. Tashiro, who was suspected of murdering Uzawa and attacking Yamazaki, shouted, "You did it! You stole my knife and planted it on me!" Because he was betrayed, Tashiro was finally angered and attacked So Saburo. Tashiro pushed So Saburo into the corner, and So Saburo muttered, "Forgive me." Hearing this, Tashiro softened, and So Saburo took the opportunity to hack him to death.
Turkiji Suizo and Okita left the scene in the drizzle. Okita left after saying "I will remember that I have something to do". Knowing Okita's plan to kill Sozaburo, Tufang Suisanhun had an unintelligible emotion on his body. He shouted violently "the devil, the devil" and swung his long sword frantically. A nearby cherry tree fell slowly. In the rain, Mufang Suishan stood among the cherry blossoms scattered all over the ground.
Two years later, the Tokugawa shogunate was defeated by the Japanese army, the samurai era was over, and Japan embarked on a modernization journey. Isamu Kondo was executed, Suzuzo Inohara and Saburo Inohara fought to death, and Okita died of disease. Just seven years after its establishment, Shinsengumi pulled its curtain down   .
