In the film, the female director Christine Jeffs strives to avoid either-or, the dual moral judgment of right and wrong, good and evil, and tries to write Plath's tragic past as a fable. Jeffers possesses the sensibility and keenness necessary to express this subject. Her understanding of Plath comes more from intuition than analysis. Therefore, the film has a strong emotional power, which exists in the emotional connection established by the director, the lead actor and Plath. Their fanatical identity gives the film an overwhelming strength, and almost makes the film's story unaffordable. The suffocating atmosphere carefully created by Jeffers, and the gray depressive emotions that have gathered, make the audience to the edge of collapse like a heroine.
