The entire planning and production process of "Superman Returns" has more than 10 years, with a total investment of more than 260 million U.S. dollars. In this long and huge production process, the production company replaced 3 famous directors in order to achieve better quality. The first person who received the invitation was Tim Bolton, but it stopped due to the schedule conflict of the ghost director. In 2001, the producer saw McG who was in the top position of "Charlie Girl 2" at the time, but because he couldn't reach Warner on the shooting location. Unanimously, they opted out, and then it was director Brett Ratner who had directed "The Rush Hour", but it was not until 2006 that Warner finally decided that Brian Singer would direct the film.
Brian Singer is one of the few independent directors who have successfully established a foothold in Hollywood. In 1995, his "The Very Suspect" was screened at the Sundance Film Festival, shocking four people with stylized editing and unexpected ending. After that, he was lucky to become The director of the "X-Men" series, after successfully creating this superhero series, "Superman Returns" became a good opportunity for him to show his skills again.
