The nuanced, striking cinematic approach of "Suite française" provides an interesting close-up portrait of Bousy, a village in northern France forced to host a garrison of Nazi soldiers. At the heart of the film is a certain romance between a timid Lucille and Bruno, an educated, piano-playing Nazi officer, but more enduring than the film's romantic perspective is director Deb's offering of a focal point A snapshot of class society. Themes of cooperation, sympathy and betrayal run through the film, and the original characters, such as Lucille's cruel mother-in-law, are further complicated by different interpretations. Even the film's portrayal of Nazi soldiers is satisfyingly complex. Equally refreshing is that, watching the film, the audience is thrown into the uncertainty of war. Binge watching the last one, so sad. Every year, I have to dig out some stories from the history of World War II. The picture and music from the big producers just feel like the big producers, and the content is quite satisfactory. German is good!

I saw that many people in the comments compared it to "Silence as the Sea". Although both of them focus on love, this film is still different from "Silence as the Sea". "Silence as the Sea" simply describes the relationship between the male and female protagonists. Subtle and deep emotions, but the "French Suite" has a stronger war background and a stronger story, so its depiction of emotions is not as delicate and moving as "Silence as the Sea". This is its shortcoming. Love Xiaomi, but why not get a French actor to play the heroine? This role doesn't need Xiaomi-level acting skills, it's a waste. ANYWA, I personally think this film is much better than another film with the same theme, "Aftermath". In addition, are the male protagonists sure that they are not the same father as MAX? The two look alike. Tom Schilling looked petite in a forest of Germanic flesh.

Suite Française quotes

  • Lucile Angellier: Hardly a word of our true feelings had ever been spoken. Not a single word about love.

  • Madeleine Labarie: My father always said, if you want to see what people are truly made of, start a war.
