State of Play (State of Play) is a British Broadcasting Corporation TV series that premiered on British Broadcasting Corporation 1 in 2003. Produced by British Broadcasting Corporation and independent production company Endorse Studios. Written by Paul Abbott, directed by David Yates, starring David Morrissey, John Simm, Kelly Macdonald, Polly Walker, Bill Nighy, James McAvoy. The story of a newspaper investigating the death of a young woman, focusing on the relationship between the chief reporter and his old friend.
The story begins with the murder of a teenager, apparently from drugs, and the death of Sonia Baker, assistant to MP Stephen Collins (David Morrissey). When Herald reporter Cal Mcaffrey (John Simm) and his colleagues (including Kelly Macdonald (Della Smith) and editor Cameron Foster (Bill Nighy)) investigate the deaths, they discover that the two deaths are not just related. It is also implicated in various corruption of oil companies financially supported by British government ministers.
