"Slither" is the directorial debut of James Francis Gunn Jr., he transforms the text in the script into images and puts it on the screen. It requires a lot of special effects and fake simulation technology. This is a necessary element to create a panic atmosphere. In the movie, the gradual change process of the main character Grant's appearance after being infected by the alien is the most important of the special effects of the whole film. The crew invited special effects makeup artist Todd Masters to lead this work. A large amount of silica gel was used in the film to shape the skin of the infected person, and it once caused the silica gel to be out of stock and had to spend 1 month to order from the manufacturer. The 500 slugs appearing in the film are made of high-strength thermal gel. The crew used 300 gallons of methylcellulose to produce the effect in the film
