The story takes place in Shanghai in the 1930s. Gordon Wasser is a smart American guy who came to China to find a chance to make a fortune; Gregoria is a determined missionary nurse who wants to use the magical power of opium to relieve the pain of the patient. When they got together, in order to find a batch of lost opium, the two fought against local drug dealers, the underworld, and a romantic love story.
Legend has it that after the death of the opium king Feradi in Shanghai, a large sum of opium was stolen by his servant Wu Zhongshu, and his whereabouts are unknown.
