"Shall we ダンス?" is a warm comedy film. It focuses on the middle-aged crisis in Japanese society, and through the story of the protagonist who accidentally enters the gate of school dance, it is humorous and witty to show that it is ordinary and monotonous. The truth is that it is not difficult to inject vitality into life.
The film is cautiously optimistic: within the established framework of life, you can still try to pursue what you love, and the difficult life can't trap a heart yearning for freedom.
"Shall we ダンス?" is a very elegant movie, elegant is the ballroom dancing in the movie, gentle and meticulous; elegant is the love of the men and women in the movie, estrangement ends at courtesy, long and profound. The simple story line and the calm narrative style can leave people with endless warmth and aftertaste.
The director used a comedy approach to show the lonely mentality of the middle-aged man in front of the audience. The protagonist Koji Yakusho's performance is quite expressive, his straightforward, restrained, and the transformation of an empty and depressed middle-aged man from restrained to open-hearted. Secondly, the lively performances of several supporting roles also add to the film a lot, and the exaggerated performance of many small characters is just right.
