In the opening 5 minutes, the twelve goalkeepers slaughtered the city, the scene was extremely tragic, and Hark Tsui's realistic martial arts showed off here. Then Fu Qing steals wooden signs, fights twelve goalkeepers bravely, is hunted down and flees to Wuzhuang to meet Wu Yuanying to rescue him, the whole paragraph is completed in one go, whether it is scenes, actions, or performances, it can be called Hark Tsui's level. However, the audience immediately greeted one question mark after another. Wu Yuanying and the others fell into the Tianshan Mountains when they encountered the sky fire. In the next shot, they were already lying next to Yang Yuncong, while Fu Qingzhu was talking to Hui Ming. Who saved them? Huiming handed the seven swords to the seven people and took them down the mountain to rescue Wuzhuang. How can Wu Yuanying and Han Zhibang be included in The Seven Swords in a short time? How did he see the different characteristics of the two men and award them the appropriate swords? Why was Luzhu from Goryeo captured near Tianshan? What is the relationship between Fenghuo Liancheng and the captured Luzhu before? The next plot can't stand scrutiny even more. The climax at the end of the film has the most terrible injury: Liu Jian went to rescue Chu Zhaonan together, knowing that there is a rape in Wuzhuang, but why does he stay behind and let the rape and murder be able to afford it? Wuzhuang suffered a massacre. Only Liu Yufang and a few children escaped. Before the whole village was a joke, no one in The Seven Swords expressed guilt. Is the life of Chu Zhaonan more important than the more than 300 people in Wuzhuang? In that case, what is the significance of The Seven Swords under Tianshan?
The plot is confusing, and more effort in character depiction can make up for the shortcomings. Hark Tsui once said that "The Seven Swords" focuses on describing human nature, so there are more literary dramas. It's a pity that most of his so-called literary dramas are manifested in all kinds of love affair, and did not promote the so-called "wu" and "xia" themes. Han Zhibang and Wu Yuanying's childhood sweetheart, and later transferred to Liu Yufang; Liu Yufang fell in love with Chu Zhaonan at first sight, so he refused to join Han Zhibang; Chu Zhaonan fell in love with the hot-sounding woman Lvzhu; Lvzhu and Liu Yufang fought against each other for Chu Zhaonan; Wu Yuan Ying was not idle either, and finally hugged Yang Yuncong together. I don't know the intricate relationship between them at all.
Since it is a martial arts movie, the martial arts action should be the top priority. Hark Tsui has taken the trouble to introduce the different characteristics of each sword. The dragon brings the whistle, the green dry appearance is rough, and the stars have chains that can fly around. The sun and the moon are a combination of two swords, the waterfall is a two-headed sword, and the statue of She is a big iron mallet. The only thing that can't be seen is Fu Qing's Mo Wen sword. What about the skill of the sword holder? Except for the first appearance of The Seven Swords in Wuzhuang, there is almost no complete long shot that allows people to see their skills clearly, and everyone seems to only pose. Even the climax of the battle between Chu Zhaonan and the turmoil, there is no more than 5 seconds of footage. The so-called "falling to the ground" realistic martial arts fighters still haven't worked out an addictive routine. What impresses people in this movie is not how cool and sharp the martial arts movements are, but the sword itself. Hark Tsui is once again obsessed with technicalism.
Overall, "The Seven Swords" looks riddled with flaws, and the film is out of control as a whole, making people dumbfounded.
