The original production cycle of "Sense and Sensibility" was 58 days, but it was finally extended to 65 days. Filming began in various locations in Devonshire in mid-April 1995. The first was the shots of Nolan Manor in the film at Saltrun House, where Winslet and Jones shot the first set of shots. Since the Saltron House is owned by the National Trust, Xiemas must sign an agreement before shooting starts, and members of the organization stay on the set to carefully supervise the shooting process. The crew later returned to shoot multiple shots until the end of April 29. The second filming location is the Fleet House (Flete House).
In May, the crew filmed the end-of-credit wedding scenes in a beautiful country church in Berry Pomeroy. From May 10th to 12th, the shots of Marian's first encounter with Willoughby were completed. The need to go to the mountains to shoot on a rainy day caused difficulties in logistics and transportation. Ang Lee took this shot about 50 times. The actors were soaked under the rain machine, which caused Winslet to faint due to excessive ventilation. There were other troubles during the filming. For example, Winslet had to limp due to phlebitis on his leg, and once fell down the stairs and sprained his wrist.
From May to July, the crew filmed in many other country houses in England. Trafalgar House (Trafalgar House) and Wilton House (Wilton House) in Salisbury, Wiltshire filmed Barton Manor and the London Ballroom respectively. Also located in Salisbury, the 18th-century Mompesson House (Mompesson House became Mrs. Jennings’ luxurious townhouse. Located in South Somerset, it was built in the 16th century). Montacute House is used as the Palmers’ Cleveland mansion in the film. Some shots were taken at Compton Castle in Devonshire and the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich .
